  1. Chaps, has anyone come across this problem, I can turn my ignition key and get dash lights however when I turn my key again to crank up the engine I get nothing, I recently have had a new ignition switch and started, ignition wires/harness looks good and no loose wires. I have on occasion been able to wiggle the wires under the switch and it will fire up. All electrics work and the van will jump start. Van now won't turn over and been stuck on the drive for a week now :(

Please help, read this could be related to earthing strap
    under the van?

  2. when you say nothing, do the dash lights stay on or go out?

  3. To clarify the battery and oil light go out but they should any way. All aux electrics work ok just wouldn't fire up. No starter noise nothing as if power is not getting to the starter.

sounds exactly what happens with hot start issues, i know you're not hot but same symptom, have you cleaned all connections on the starter and solenoid? also check for clean earths.

  5. The oil and battery go out when you switch it to crank? If they do, there's your problem, as they shouldn't.... faulty switch!!

  6. Faulty switch? I recently swap this for a new one. Had same symptoms to be honest however same problem in the space of two weeks? and also could wiggle wires and wire harness and it would now and then work. Thought it could be ignition wires however checked these today. Could it be switch is good and just not earth correctly?

  7. Earth would be slow cranking, as opposed to none, then some, then none again!!

I've had new switches go faulty within weeks of installing them o_O or it could be you've some faulty/dry connectors... have you checked the spade terminal on the starter?

  8. I had this issue prior to me swapping the starter, so my bet its the switch again. Thank you.

  9. The ignition lights should stay on when cranking, if they go off then that is a general indicator that the switch is faulty

Part of the ignition switch does switch off to crank, but this feeds dip/main lights and wiper (high current draw items) so the start gets full current from the battery!! :)

  10. I have had this issue intermittently 3/4 Times over space 6 months..few year's ago. I traced it too faulty starter motor solenoid in the end. New starter starter motor has sorted it.I was getting 12v feed on cranking to solenoid but no solenoid action as it were.

    matty likes this.
  11. I've had this..... today , several times, its my solenoid sticking though as quick tap on the starter gets it going!

  12. I had this issue pre new starter motor. I think it must be the switch, however had a new switch a few weeks ago!
