  1. How do I work out how much something will cost imported from the USA. Looking to buy a Jaycee product that costs $58?

I think there's no duty on stuff under £50

    Otherwise vat at 20%

  3. I have imported model aeroplane parts from the states, (approx $100) and never been charged anything. maybe lucky, I don't know.

Its 10% duty on the declared value then VAT on the lot, including postage costs.
The PO charge less than a tenner, Parcel Farce charge up to £19.99!

  5. Great just Importing some bits 32 dollars but they add on shipping and insurance costs to tax! Gits

  6. You can get lucky with bigger amounts, but VWED is right, it's £15 for VAT plus the Post Office or courier fee.

Obviously nobody condones tax avoidance, but if the supplier writes in the value at $20 on the customs label .............

That's fine unless it goes missing; then you'd be under insured.

  8. Or Gift;)

  9. Yes, gift is hard from a commercial supplier, but I have got stuff sent to my sister's in Texas and then gifted to get it over here before. Depends how the sums work really.

  10. Another thing to consider is that under valuing on a shipping document is classed as fraud... So businesses over in the states are likely to tell you to jog on :)

  11. Depends on the company ;)

  12. While that is true, it can also mean you're less likely to get your parts, and there is bugger all that you can do about it!!
