Guys is there anyway to improve the Headlights on a Bus? Mine are err - dull but probably on par for a typical 79 Bus!
check the conduction of the wiring and connections both at the bulb, the fuse and fuse connections giving them a good clean up with some wet and dry.
I may get my headlamp bowls vinyl wrapped in chrome but need to check that the bulb heat wont melt the vinyl
On my old Stag i fitted some relays to the headlights via the battery, made a vast improvement, a lot of power is lost via the old wiring and headlight switch
good voltage at the lamp is very important....second to that is a good earth or return path....back throught the metal work...with out this...its as bad as poor voltage (poor connections lots or poor connection)...a good lamp...new halogen rather than the old golf ball lamp...clean and clear reflectors....or you could fit spots perhaps....
the only time i ever turn my head lights on is at the MOT when it's dark and i'm in my van i tend to be sleeping at a camp site somewhere
I stuck a set of Mk1 Golf headlights in with new H4 Ultrabright halogen lamps - now they are uber bright and legal.
I think you're allowed to upgrade the bulbs in pre 1980s vehicles to 100/90 watts Here's some, they should be a great improvement providing the wiring's up to the task http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2X-12VOLT-100-80WATT-P45T-HALOGEN-485-H4-BULBS-/251124360535?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a782da557
fitting relays wont make much difference on our vans as the circuit is small The power comes from the battery to the starter then to the ignition switch all in big wires then to headlight switch to the fuse box then the fuse to the headlights Assuming you have halogen headlights and not sealed beam units and that the starter works ok the Issues will be in-order rusted earth in the back of the bowl corrosion on the ends of the fuses headlight bowl reflector corroded bulb connection corroded Headlight switch connections
