just curious ( oil pressure light )

  1. does this light come on or flicker under low pressure or high pressure ? type 1 engine
Just wondered as on the odd occasion it does flicker after a long run at idle .
Also wouldnt say loads but the tinware under the heat exchangers where that "drain" tube with the rubber pointed cover on it for the oil filler hangs over has always got a layer of wet oil on it and does look like it had dripped from that drain tube ?

not that the oil level really goes down much

  2. Oil pressure light is a low pressure warning!!

As for the drip pipe... that's kinda what it does!! They deleted them around 74 as they were not really environmentally friendly dripping oil everywhere!!

  3. ahh i see lol , dosnt really drip off that bit of tinware theres just always a layer of oil on it ,

    Nice one :)

  4. If your bearings are a bit tired and the oil's hot, it may do this. If it goes straight out when you rev the engine, you're fine. Too thin (eg 30 grade) oil may also add to it.

The dangly tube extracts crankcase fumes, so mebbe a drip of condensed oil is fine. As Paul said, not very eco-friendly, so in later vans they piped it to the air cleaner.

  5. to be fair the light used to flicker because i think there was a bit of petrol in the oil (20/50) due to the pump leaking since sorted , the bearings are all new (12 months old ish ) ans yes once you took the revs past about 1000 rpm it stopped :)

  6. could be that the switch is a little bit sensitive then...

  7. Last time I looked at the underside of my oil pressure switch, it read something like "0.35 - 0.7 bar"

  8. well i have just installed a new switch when i changed the oil just in case the fuel in the oil had damaged it , but as of yet haven't had a chance to take it for a good run , only to the mot station and back and it passed ( 8 years on the trot now ) :) happy days
