The same happened to me on my daily. The guy in the garage used a drill bit with a reverse / opposite thread. He drilled it into the locking nut and then simply un did it.....
If only life was so simple. These are thatcham approved jobbies. The socket didn't work, tried making a tool that hasn't worked. Next stop welder. Will be in touch with @Snowz to see if he can assist
Hammer a smaller socket over it. If you can't do it, employ a skilled mechanic to hammer a smaller socket over it. If that fails, hammer a smaller skilled mechanic over the first one.
I think your going to have to weld a nut on. Just big enough so you can get a decent size socket and bar on it. Weld on the inside or the nut. I have got them off before with an air chisel as long as you have a decent compressor??!
Did you sort this? If not and you can wait, I can make you a new tool to fit the lock. Just need a few measurements.
Hello guys. No. Not yet. My wife's dad passed away on Tuesday so its kind if taken a back seat right now. I had to return to work for a conference today so it will be another week or so before I get a chance to take a look at it. Oscar man, if its something you could make which won't necessitate welding or potential damage I'd be indebted, PM me what you need and how much Thanks for all your offers of help and advice
So sorry to hear of your wife's dad passing away I'm sure the vw's are least of your worries at the moment, just give a shout if you need a hand whenever
