Hello, I’m Andrew and I live in Hereford. I’ve decided I’d like to have a go at restoring a VW T2 Bay. Never owned or worked on any air cooled car/van before but restored a few Land Rovers and Triumphs.
Howdy! Do you have a budget and "project level" in mind? As always buy the best you can, unless you want something to really get your teeth into. There are plenty of vans going on Facebook marketplace at varying levels of decay.
Hello. Not got a firm budget £4 - 8k. Been to see a 1972 cross over local to me for £4k but someone’s had a go at welding a few new panels in but to a very poor standard. Lots of filler in body & both door bottoms rotted out. Couldn’t see floor or inner chassis due to badly patched belly pans etc…
Hi welcome from sunny Devon Be wary of belly pans they trap water and rot out behind. At your budget you should at least get a working van which is a massive bonus. Good luck with your search.
Graham Lyall who runs Midland E arly Bay has a lovely looking RHD crossover dormobile that he's not asking much money for. Looks pretty solid, just appears to be interior / cosmetics to sort out the get the MOT etc. I think this may sell very quickly. No idea how to link direct to the ad on FB but here's a screen shot:
If I had the time and the required approvals in place with the chief, to me this would seem like a good project option: FOR SALE - Westfalia T2 for sale | The Late Bay
