my apprentices nightmare

Discussion in 'Restorations' started by corsadaft, Oct 9, 2013.

  1. this is the starting point for the camper van i took on from another garage to give my apprentice expeirance of something different ,we were told it had all been welded and prepared by a volkswagen expert .this is what we got !

  2. now the story begins . after an initial look the underside was all nice black underseal so we assumed (never a good thing) that all the welding was done . we then got a visit from the owner who explained that his partner had been left some money by an old aunt and that she had decided to buy this van ,so they done some research and came upon the EXPERT ,he looked at the van quoted 5k for a refurb and that it would be on the road for the summer. after paying 3k to the expert they had got a recon engine (the old one had twin carbs ,new one a single carb ) the fuel tank had to be replaced coz it was wrong ( see pictures for mods )

  3. do you know the name of the'expert' in question? name and shame if so! thats disgusting!!!

I don't think that naming and shaming is the right thing tbh.

Welcome to tlb, your apprentice will be a good welder after this project.

  5. surely knowing who the goon is will help less people get stung in the future? I know id rather be let know who to avoid than getting some clown to work on mine!

That's true but it's a thin line we have to walk, some people can get onto their lawyers very quickly if they think their "good name" is being dragged through the mud.
If the O.P. wants to let you know privately, well that's his business but don't mention it on here

  7. If not naming and shaming then which part of the country are we looking at?

there is no need to slander the name of the "restorer" all you have to do is post ,

"Our customer took there vehicle to bodgit and scarper for a full resto, having paid X amount for panel replacement they removed the vehicle from the previous restorer. The pictures attached show the work carried out. " we will be continuing with the project and will update with our progress.

nothing liableous there, did they take it to bodgit and scarper .... yes did they pay x amount for the work .... yes are the pictures shown a true representation of the work carried out by the company ... yes .....

have you criticised the work... no have you lambasted the company...no

No case to answer and people can make up there own mind... nothing illegal in that .. is there?

Is work held up until it gets sorted then?
Means the poor owner has to wait even longer to get the van they were dreaming about.
