This isn't so much my bit on the side but my daily driver. Shortly my bit on the side will be a VW bus! Can you spot it? I bought it 2 years ago and it's had a lot of bodywork done amongst other things. It's been restored back to original spec, bar electronic ignition and Rover minilite-style alloys which were an option the original owner didn't take when new. It's the Mayfair model so I am treated to a deluxe grey velour interior, cassette player, tachometer, tinted glass and, ummm.... that's about it. I thoroughly recommend these little cars as they are incredibly fun, and the club scene is great, but as with buses they need lots of regular servicing to keep them going and it helps if you have small hands..
my first car was a mini neon. quickly followed by a mini mayfair with a 1275. great little car and plenty of go for it's size. then things got a bit silly with a black mini city that i managed to put a honda vtec engine in it. the only problem being that the front was 4 inches longer than stock and it wouldnt steer around corners when you put your foot down
I love Minis (well, the mini ones, not the *huge* BMW effort). I can also fold my 6'7" frame inside one to drive it with some comfort!
Looks great. I've restored a '73 Minimatic, which was Italian. We loved that thing! Wanted to move on to VW's and a camper so it had to go. Looks like you keep yours in good company!
@pyroking I agree, people deride it for its size but INSIDE it's not much different from any other small car. Small on the outside, big on the inside. My 'massive' 6 foot 2 friends always moan when they get in it, not realising that their old fiesta wasn't much different. The Mayfair is currently sitting in the garage awaiting a new lower suspension arm pin. Managed to snap the end off the old one trying to take it out to replace the bushes at the weekend. Will need to cut it out. Grrrr!
My first car was a 1275GT, second was a 980 from 1980 I think - both hand painted. Ah...Oscelli and RC40's...those were the days..... Great little cars - mine had an exact size 10 imprint in the rear quarter panel - I know it was size 10 as it was my size 10 as I got Basil Fawlty on it's ass - my then starting technique was choke out, foot out door and jump start it as it rolled off the drive. After 5 times of pushing back up the drive I got medevil. I learnt about sore feet and condensers not working all in the same day.
