New "Fun Police" mooted!

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Dicky, Sep 18, 2013.

  1. Plod have decided that its too expensive to use resources managing/caring for those who've had a few too many and made a nuisance of themselves and suggested a private contractor could be used and that the costs should be paidfor by the person nicked for d+d or whatever.

Seems a reasonable idea provided if its done and monitored properly but would you be happy being in the care of G4S or similar or if you drink too much is ot your problem!!

  2. no problem... g4s (and it will prob be them or a serco sub) have an impeccable human rights history, just ask jimmy mubenga's family or palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons

  3. Whilst I agree with @Ermintrude on that point I absolutely agree that if you get so p1ssed that you are out of control and a danger to yourself and others then you deserve what's coming to you. (Summe Camp excluded).
I've seen far too many A&E's full to overflowing with p1ssed up idiots, with fight/fall/UDI's using up much needed services/resources and The Police (for all their faults) really do have better things to do other than playing Nanny to drunk teenagers.
If you have the money to get in that state then you should pay to be looked after when you get like it. Maybe then you'll think before doing it again.

  4. Good idea in principle however, anyone who is drunk and incapable should go to A&E anyway. D&D normally involve violence and taking on the world so would need putting in a cell. Drunk people are the most likely to die in custody either through alcohol withdrawal, vomiting in sleep or going into coma. I think that private contractors would avoid this like the plague or charge a silly amount that would not make it cost effective.
It took over 10 years after discussion to get mentally vulnerable people straight to assessment centres run by the NHS rather than into cells. Even then if they are full or the person is violent they are taken to the cells which certainly is not the best place for them to be.

  5. This ^^^^ makes perfect sense but the VAST majority of drunks are young(er) people with too much money and too little sense.

  6. Very true but they are fighting and vomiting everywhere and probably taken drugs. The older one are alcoholics and have had alcohol prescribed by doctor because of risk of death. I don't think G4S would risk it.

Spend a Friday or Saturday night working in an A & E, then see how much sympathy you have for the drunks then.

  8. One thought, I think that if alcohol had just been invented it would be made illegal because of all the risks and chaos to society it causes.

  9. 11 years in charge of a custody suite is enough. I have little or no sympathy. I've even threatened to baton a *******ed up youth who threatened a nurse at A&E.

  10. The idea of getting the Stella heads in town to pay for being a pain in the backside on a friday and saturday night is a good idea

Using taxpayers money to get the police to round up people so that a private company can make a profit has to be the worst idea ever and so open to abuse and corruption its almost guarranteed.

Chances of Mr Plod getting a backhander from the private company to offset his lack of pay rise very high.

Chances of Mr Plod focussing on "real crime" instead of being a taxi service under the new idea very low.

Quite, then there's the fact that anyone drunk will be seen as £ notes to pick up. I forsee some not so drunk people having an expensive night out. More likely the idea is to draw a line between people dying in cells and the police.
Otherwise great idea in a "serves you right" sort of way, as said above.

  12. also... bigger picture folks.....

Step 1) G4S Police Custody Ltd

    Step 2) G4S Police Ltd

there won't be any pubs left soon anyway, all the lock up centres will be outside Tesco plc who will have their own police and arrest you for daring to have your own mind.

  14. Nail on the head there, its a profit making company, they'll want their cells all full every friday and saturday night, the same amount of people will get nicked on a quiet saturday night as a busy one regardless of how drunk they are.

  15. Totally agree. Very bad publicity people dying in cells and I think that is why it will not go private. A private company would not like it and really would charge a lot of money for the staffing and medical issues.

  16. So why don't the government just charge anyone who ends up in the cell or A&E for drink related problems just fine them the cost instead of subbing it out to a private firm.. Or is it that the politicians own these private firms so rather than benifit the government they can line their own pockets?

Doesn't that come under the heading of "Cruel & Unusual Punishment"?

  19. make the supermarkets /clubs etc who sell the stuff now pay for their part in the crime. Why is everything always about the aftermarth why not start educating and making those that sell and make huge profits take some of the responsibility , happy hours n free shots n stuff , urm sorry but its not all one way, many of us know only to well how one drink can lead to another and even the sensible mind can get blurred . We need to look at how and why more and more people are getting like this. I agree too ,that innocent reasonably sensible people who may have had a couple of drinks and just be having a good time are going to get caught up in this and do, ive always thought the lack of transport late at night when these places that sell drink late kick out helps to fuel trouble too, people hang around waiting for taxis or just cos they cant get home or to another party . Drunk and disorderly is an offense so the police dont need any other excuse to pull you. Maybe money should be collected from those that sell it to pay for transport to help deal with the problem they might not be so keen at helping people to get drunk then . On a lighter note coffee could be provided as the only option for the last hour and no rounds bowt that you cant carry in two hands.:D

  20. yup, force feed them Sister Margaret Powers mince, gravy and boiled potatoes

now there's a thought all drunk tanks staffed not by G4S by Salesian nuns (the most evil nuns on the planet) that'll sober people up!
