New project owner

  1. Hi all,

I've been lurking in the classifieds but thought I'd introduce myself. Picked up a project microbus that's slowly being restored and transformed into a camper.

It's a 73 and having had some help decoding the vin turns out to be a "wild westerner" edition that was apparently was specific to the US West coast; although it's been painted a few time since (I've attached a photo of an example of the questionable original colours below!)

Sorry state when it was collected

    Welcome!
There's a great thread in the Samba on these you should link to.
Cool bus. Are you UK based and are you likely to put it back to how it was paint wise?

    Welcome to the forum!
I love the 'special editions' - (mainly because they have stripes, and I definitely fancy getting stripes on mine!)
The Wild Westerner is fab

    Welcome aboard!

So you are the guy!! Bill Sullivan over on the samba is keeping an excellent register for Wild Western editions, he is giving owners a one off sticker with WW related info on..drop him a line.

I do hope to see it in proper colours, it’s a superb piece of bus history :hattip:

  12. Thanks, yeah I'm in Manchester although the van lives at my bro in laws in Derbyshire at the moment as he's helping massively with the build.

Unfortunately due to the budget the paint will be staying as is with a bit of tidying and blowing in where it's been welded. There's still some of the original paint visible in the inner arches and door shuts which I like

Welcome from Derbyshire:). I do like a Wild Westerner, and a tin top.

Tbh it doesn’t look bad now.
