hello there I don't know if my van(Zoe) counts on this forum as she's a 3 year old danbury diamond - does that count? If not can anyone help me anyway. I had a problem with the clutch last year which ended up being easily fixed by 'adjusting up' - to quote the garage who fixed it. . It's gone again today & I'm wondering how easy it might be for me to have a go. I used to do all the maintenace on my mini so ain't completely clueless but I don't want to muck it up & make things worse. basically if the engine's running I can't get it into gear. If I turn off the engine it goes into any gear apart from 1st & I can drive home in 2nd - luckily we weren't too far from home when it happened today. Any tips???
First off get a manual, like Haynes or Bentley, then get under the passenger side of the bus and find the gearbox, should be a cable with a wing nut on it, wind it up a little and retry the clutch, if this doesn't work buy a new clutch cable, but do buy a manual, lots of helpful stuff in there.
There is a forum specifically for Brasilian bays, but you'll get as much help and no prejudice on here. How much play is there when you depress the clutch pedal? If it goes a long way before it bites then you need to adjust it. If you ride the clutch when you drive it's possible you'll need a new friction plate
Hello Zoe, You are more than welcome on thelatebay, as is anyone! As Joker says, there is a form for Brasi Bays, Tim and his team run it very well!
Hi thanks for the replies - i'll definitly get the manual & give it a shot. where do I find the forum for Brasi bays?
Thanks for the welcome I'm now searching for a manual - will the standard haynes t2 cover what I need - clutches can't be so different can they?
you'll need a service manual specific to your model year. The standard type 2 haynes et al manuals won't benefit you at all. Did you buy it used or from a main dealer? If you're sure Danbury supplied it you should go back to them or ask on the Brasilian forum. These vans might look similar but they are actually very different. I'm guessing yours is water cooled as well?
I bought my water cooled van new from danbury & whenever i've asked anything about basic maintenance they just suggest taking it to them for the work - difficult when they're in Bristol & I'm in London. I haven't found them terribly useful really. the manual they supply is in portuguese & they don't proved a translation! I have found the brasilian forum now so will try there. Thanks for the advice
I don't mind that you've a new Bay...but I do mind that I've now got the same name as the back end of a bus... YorkshireCampers..aka Zoe.
