Ive been thinking about fitting an oil pressure sender to my engine (AS 1600) before it does eventually go back in... What would be the best way to do this? Cheers
You'll need an adapter then it can be fitted from the same place as the original oil warning light hole. It'll have to fitted 90 deg from the hole so as to clear the casing
So like a tee piece out of the original hole, i was thinking since the engine is out and on the bench drilling and tapping the block, but it wouldnt leave much room for error
If you've got one of the VDO dual sender units (oil pressure switch and pressure sender), it'll screw straight into the existing oil pressure switch hole, even with the engine in. No need to drill & tap anything!
One thing to watch out for with the dual units is that the oil pressure switch operates at a higher pressure than the stock van switch. This means your oil light may flicker or even come on at low revs when the oil's hot. It's extremely annoying. Might be worth going for a single contact pressure sender and the stock pressure switch, on a t-piece.
If you've got VDO gauges, use the VDO senders. There isn't really a "best". I've got the dual unit, and the higher-pressure switch thing drives me mad after a long run. I'm going to t-piece an original switch back in.
i have one of these http://www.coolairvw.co.uk/Item/Sho...rminal_Oil_Pressure_Sender_-OB-80PSI-CB-.html
They do 2 a 80psi one and 150psi one i dont know if this makes a difference to the light As zed i dont have the light flicker
