One step forward..........

  1. Hi All,
Just starting to fit my cab door kit togther and now have found out that the replacement doors which came with the van do not take the door check strap I have removed from my old doors!
From a bit of onine research and reading the Mech Tech here, it turns out that these door are from a newer van than my 1976 bay and had the later door check straps which also fitted to the aircooled T25. (I now know I should have checked but I didnt realise they changed)

Had a quick look to find some and JK want a tad under £100! & Ive tried a lot of the other suppliers but are struggling to find some.
Any ideas? Is it worth trying the T25 clubs to see if anyone has them.

    Cheers

  2. When you say 'straps' do you actually mean straps or the bar that fixes to the body with ridges on it that slides into the side of the door?

    Thanks for the reply,
what I meant is the whole door check spring attachment complete. I have the ones with a loop as a tensioner and the replacement doors I have are designed to take the later version (different shape)
I got rid of my old doors otherwise Id take a photo of the different appertures but please see the photos above.
    Hope this helps.

  4. you can get a plate to modify them i think. to make your door check straps fit the newer doors.

look on just kampers. i think its in the cab door hinge kit.

  5. Hmm. You're going to have probs fitting early straps to late doors, unless you get welding. Perfectly possible the other way round with a bit of filing, but that doesn't help :( .

Could try eBay or one of the second-hand places like Megabug for late straps.

  6. Thanks guys, I dont really fancy the welding option as it will be easier to install the correct ones.
I'll start to trawl the secondhand places to see if I have some luck.

  7. All sorted at last and I got some second hand ones from Volksheaven at a reasonable price (quick delivery too)

  8. didnt see this before but ive got a pair of T25 doors going spare if you want the check straps of em!

  9. Well done that man :). Saves a lot of faff.
