Was thinking of getting some, then thought why not put say £500 in an account then transfer £50 a month till its say 3K then leave it, top it as and when, not much good though if something happens short term.

  2. If you're talking about dog insurance let's hope it never needs chemotherapy like ours did, twice! Even if I'd sold the house to pay it I'd still be in debt and I kid you not! Thank God for Pet Plan is all I can say. Costs more than the others but well worth it when it comes to paying out, vets' love PP.

  6. Agree, if something unthinkable happens you should be covered. It's a double edged sword though. I've watched my Dog's insurance go up and up every year, thankfully, not had to make a claim yet. Interesting that you can't claim for dental work though as it comes under preventative surgery. Had to have his teeth cleaned and a couple removed twice now.
I've said before though, if I ever have Dogs again, i'd put away an amount each month in a special account.
    Then, you never can tell.

  7. I had dogs for many years , and didnt have pet insurance , as known nut cases, i had springers ,one even went over beachy head , she did luckily survive believe it or not, with a small cut n slight bruising ,but pet insurance wasnt rife then either , id say its a nice little earner for the insurance companys and has also helped to push up vets bills too. Sometimes when i see and hear what some of these ops have cost it makes me wonder, WHY?? As with most insurance stuff you pays your money and you takes your chance , ie is their a loop hole when you need them MOST or is the premium just to expensive after a claim. Its all about risk i suppose and luck and also taking care and prevention.

  8. My bonkers Cockerpoo Ralf tried to make friends with a horse..... The horse was unimpressed and stamped on Ralf's paw - three broken toes, and a £5k vet bill. We were insured thank god, and I can recommend John Lewis pet insurance. Vets are well paid these days, Ralf was referred for his surgery to a huge vet hospital in Birmingham called Willows, and to say it was a state of the art facility was an understatement - they did a really good job and he's completely back to normal - still smells though..... :(

Your plan is great, but what happens if your dog gets ill / is hurt next month?

I think the prevalence of pet insurance has pushed up vets bills to ridiculous levels. A yearly booster injection for our dog just cost us £45 :eek:
It probably cost the vet 45p to buy it.
