Picture the scene - a few weeks ago I pick the van up having got a lift from the very kind rickyrooo1.

Him being the vigilant type when following me, notices that the van looses some liquid when I turn left - I think the term hissing out is what he said, and we both joyfully agreed that that there liquid was of the petrol variety, spilling down onto my nice hot exhaust. I drive home sedately - actually that's a lie, I had no interior and the thing really goes with no interior so I just slow down a little when turning left.

This week I decide to take a gander and notice that my non standard petrol cap is wobbly.

Today, I take a look at the hole in which said cap fits:

Looks a bit weird - especially as a standard cap does not fit - so I take it out and find:

Don't be concerned, the finger/thumb were added as a visual prop.

Now....I know that the petrol cap was put on by my old man in the early 80's and it appears that someone has spunked together an original filler top (with the middle cut out) and some form of adaptor - Homes and Watson like deduction led us to believe that either my old man couldn't find a locking filler cap (plausible) or was too tight and got some form of adaptor kit from Halfords (probable) that someone modified/updated badly sometime in the ensuing 27 years (definite).

So - with the help of rickyrooo1 I've devised a more 'green' friendly fix, that is both contemporary ( a lie) and retro (not a lie, loads of cars looked like this in the 70's). Rick is seen adding eye candy in this picture that shows said fix:

And before everyone get's all concerned on grounds of health and safety, can I point out:

    We chose lint free cloth.
That's electrical tape so won't damage the paint.
Rick's hi vis jacket was in the wash.

:hattip: i still think your idea of looking down the hole with a match wasn't clever - it's burnt all my lovely long locks off.
