WANTED Piece of green/yellow westy plaid

  1. Hi recovering my buddy box and need a piece of green/yellow west plaid approx size 400mm by 450mm. I have some spare seat covers and feel a bit loathed to cut them up. Also on the look out for 1 green curtain as on of mine has a hole in.

  2. Have a whole load of spare green curtains that I'm planning on getting rid of. Which one are you after? They all have some fading but some aren't "too" bad!

I will probably also eventually have some spare (faded) yellow/green plaid, but I need to make my buddy box first and so until I do that I won't know what is spare. If you haven't found some by the time I've done that you are welcome to some.

    Nick...

  3. Hi I am after off side rear the one that gets tucked behind the wardrobe.

  4. Is it the one with the male or female popper?

  5. ohhh I will have to have a look

  6. Hi mate had a look at my curtain and it the one which tucks behind the wardrobe no popper on it has a plastic loop on the bottom!!??
Material wise would need 500mm sq

  7. None of mine appear to have plastic bits on the bottom. They all have poppers halfway down on one side for joining to the other half of the pair in the middle of the window. You are welcome to one of these if it might be any use to you.

What is the plastic loop for? Perhaps you could sew your plastic loop from yours on to one of these, and put the end with the popper behind the cupboard?

Do you have a photo of yours? Might help me be able to tell if one of my spare would do for you.

    Thanks.

  8. I will take a picture and measure it tonight.
    Cheers PeaSoup..

  9. I thought the green Westfalia curtains were all the same - but I guess they aren't!

  10. Hi mate pics as promissed the curtain which goes behind the wardrobe is twice as long as the others.
Won't let be load pics will have to do it off comp tomorrow how badly faded are yours ?

  11. Ah, that is a sliding door curtain that a PO must have put on the window behind the cupboard.

And that explains what the white bit sticking out of the corner ormone of mine was - must have had one of those plastic loops that fell off at some point.

I do have one of these curtains in OK condition - will find it out and take a photo once I've got the kids off to school.

    Nick.

  12. OK, here I some pictures of what I have.

Front and back of full width (sliding door?) curtain like yours. Note no white plastic ring in the corner and so if you use that you would have to sew it in yourself from your old one. The colour is very good on this one with only a little bit of hardly noticeable fading on the back.

It does however have a pulled thread in it as seen in this picture - and you can also see it bottom rightish on the top photo of the front. It goes nearly half way across the curtain.
This curtain is actually slightly better colour and less faded than the one I put in my van - I used the other one as it didn't have a pulled thread!
Think I'd be looking for £10 plus postage for this one.

The plaid I have is an old 3/4 width seat cover - would be willing to cut this in half down the middle and let you have half. However as you can see it is very faded - compare the middle to the edge! As so faded would let this go for cost of postage.

Normally for the side window behind the cupboard on a Westie you would have two of these curtains. If you wanted to do this instead then these are the best two I have - pics of both sides. The fading isn't as bad as it looks in the picture in reality - it really reflected the flash! Would do these for £8 for the pair plus postage.

I had an idea on the plaid if you want something better than that. I would be willing to go halves with you on a metre of new reproduction material. I need enough for two buddy boxes and so being that the new stuff is 1.6m wide and sold per metre length half of that would easily do me. Just a thought...

Let me know what you think.

    Nick...

  13. Hi Nick,
So the door curtain is one peace should there be a plastic loop on both ends ?
I think I will grab both off of you then I can decide what to do.

Material I have asked Frank who is coming back to me what price do you have for new.

I will send you a PM about postage.

    Cheers Steve

  14. Afraid I have no idea about the plastic loops - I've never seen a curtain with them on. However, have just had a look at this spare curtain I have and there are definitely some ends of white elastic in both the bottom corners and so I guess they did have them at both ends. It would actually make sense on the sliding door as the one in our van just sort of flaps around especially at the front edge and so could do with tying down somehow - am going to have a look to see if there is somewhere a plastic ring could attach to on ours!

I did just do some googling and can find lots of references to Westfalia curtains for the T25 having these plastic loops (e.g. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6081970) but didn't see anything that mentioned T2 Westies. So either we both have T25 curtains or they were the same for T2s!

With regard to prices for new plaid:

    VWHeritage:
    http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares...hop.product_pID_185764_lang_EN_country_GB.htm
    £46 per yard

    German Camper Company:
    http://www.germancampercompany.com/westfalia-plaid-fabric-greenyellow-p-285.html#.Ua7_sEAhjTo
    £39.99 per yard

    Westfalia Spares:
    http://www.westfaliasparesuk.com/wsshop/product.php?id_product=94
    £45 per metre

I recovered all my seats with the stuff from VWHeritage and so if buying new, although the most expensive, I think I'd probably ideally go for the same one again to make sure it matches my seats properly - there are two of three different reproduction materials out there and although they are all a really good match they do look subtly different to each other!

Although, having just looked again at the prices of the new material think I might just use the seat covers I have for now as new material is a cost I can't really justify at the moment.

  15. So learning lots today!

Just been out and looked at my van and at there are two screw holes in the side of my van exactly at the bottom corners of the sliding door curtains. Also the curtain I've got in my van is showing ends of broken elastic in the bottom corners, and so this strongly suggests that it would have had plastic rings on both corners and that there would have been studs to hook the rings over on the van.

Am guessing it's things like this that I have missing and should be screwed to where the holes are:

Thought I knew my van inside out by now, but still learning something new every day!!!

  16. Seems to make sense I am stuck at work with tons to do I do seem to remember somthing on mine I will have a look tonight.

  17. Thanks for the pics - looks very nice. Inside looks in very good original condition.

This is the best picture I currently have of my re-done inside. Have got as far forward as the kitchen unit and am working on that at the moment.

    IMG_2902.JPG

It is a Berlin/Campmobile like yours, however we have three kids and so I needed to turn it in to a full width seat. So I made a new seat using the original 3/4 width brackets etc and modified the rear wardrobe to not be as deep so that I could use the proper side seatbelt mounting point and also still open the door with the full width seat in front of it. As I had to lose the fridge from down the side I've re-structured the kitchen unit to fit a more modern compressor fridge, and also because of that have had to move the spare wheel to the front.

Inside is nearly done - just the roof to go really!
