Yeah that was my theory, but to wind it up so the inner plate was level with the outer/shorter half of the spring plate i had no thread left to keep the nut on there, so just chucked it on top. Just means that i can raise it up to its limit so i can see if i am right or wrong tomorrow when i put the wheels back on.
Rear finished, just needs a tinker to get level when all four wheels are back on the ground. Took a photo of the bump stop mount to show distance left. Moving on to the fronts now, bus is on stands at front and wheels off. Need to do a quick read up on how to change spindles. Can bump stops be relocated? Or is that tubbing territory?
Going to put hub caps on, probably going to paint them gold like the wheels and do a good thick layering of clearcoating. Might have to bolt them on, if they got nicked I would be fuming.
Just skim read a thread on droped spindle fitting, and somebody has said that if fitting to a vehicle with stock 14" steels, the lower ball joint comes real close to the wheel. I suppose, real close is still not touching.
IIRC the camber has to be set very wrong just to get it onto both ball joints, but after you set correctly there's ample clearance. Maybe he hasn't adjusted the camber?
You'll see what I mean when you fit them. You can set the camber adjuster to it's central "start" position initially which shouldn't be too far out.
Is that garden hose Phil? If you have that in the engine bay (particularly) you might find it goes a bit soft and collapses.
Mate its long to explain. The people who did the repairs charged me to replace the vacuum hoses on the brake servo as the vacuum hoses I used were not the right ones. And they stuck garden hose on. I will mention it to them. and I just won't be recommending or endorsing their services. It seems where I live the specialists are far from specialists. I was a bit defensive of them at first when people said they knew nothing, but now I know and its a lesson learned and it won't be repeated. The nearest vw garage to me now is an hour and a half away in a normal car at normal speeds so I will just have to keep doing it all myself.
@zed or @Top Banana Racing can you point me in the direction of some quality servo vacuum hose please guys, while its on my mind.
Find your local hydraulic hose supplier? That's what I normally use, though this time I'm using 1/2" fuel injection hose on mine as it's a little bit more flexible. Try and crush it, if you can it's no good.
@PSG I'll point you in the direction of someone really good and only 30minute drive from you. He does a great job and doesn't use any gardening equipment
Cheers bud. Any idea when you are down this way next with the walk through mat? I'll try to be at home you can see the bay then.
