Purchase from eBay stolen, really;)!!

  1. On receiving a notification at the end of a forgotten bid on eBay, stating I won a cab door for 99p I was really pleased. These things never happen to me that often, if at all!
So, I contacted the seller to inform him that I would drive over to collect, about an hour's drive however meant that I could pop in to see Razzyh :)
Anyway, I had a bit of correspondence from the seller so all was good until today, da da daaaaa, yep you guessed it, it's been stolen from his lockup!! Shock horror gasp!
This is what he sent me....

Bit of a situation..!! just went up to the yard to check on the door..~!!! Oooops its been knicked..!!!! So i will be refunding you your money

Well, you'll be surprised to find out that he wouldn't give over his details so I could report this theft to the police and of course nothing else was taken from his premises!
He has informed me that reporting this to the police was not worth it as its only a 99p door and that I shouldn't worry about it!

Now I'm sorry, we've all been stupid enough to do it on there, putting something up for 99p start and then it doesn't sell for what we actually want, that's why there's a reserve, etc etc isn't it?

But to boldly lie about this I'm pretty annoyed, putting it politely and am now wondering what to do... feedback etc?

    Happens all the time.
Yes, he's technically breaking a contract, but negative feedback is all you can realistically do.

  3. Mmmnnn, yeah but with no proof I'm gonna have to be careful how I write it up :)

  4. I sold a mk1 golf early spec bumper on ebay once for a lot less than it should've made. It was in the back of my caddy pickup and got pinched along with some other metal bits and pieces and i had to mail the buyer and tell him which didn't go down very well.......he thought i was making it up to get out of selling it for the cheap final price lol
It does happen.........but i'm fairly sure your man here is full of s*** :)

How do people normally prove eBay disagreements?
You won the auction, he didn't supply the goods. If he really had his lock-up broken into he'd give you a crime reference.

  6. I would report it through ebay. If you have purchased the door then it is your property that has been 'stolen' maybe send him a message stating that as it was at that time your property you will report the matter to the police who will be able to get his details from ebay, unless of course he would rather own up and admit there was no theft and that he just didnt want to sell for 99p

  7. Also, add him to your favourite sellers list and wait for the door to come up again.

  8. ^^^ Yeah, do this!^^^
If nothing else it will be funny as hell! :p

  9. Trust me when I say, I know how it works and I did everything to get the details in order to report this. He just doesn't want to know, hasn't reported anything to police and also still hasn't refunded my 99p! Haha!

  10. Done! ;)

  11. I've informed I'm going to report it and he's said that he left it down the side of his van for me to collect it.

I bet this happens hundreds if not thousands of times a day.
Leave bad feedback and forget it. Its not worth stressing over.

  15. you found it? just spent 10 minutes looking...

    found a pair for 99p....

  16. It's happened to me a few times

The item doesn't sell for what the seller expects, so makes up some cock and bull story and pulls out of the deal

Other than reporting your suspicions to ebay and leaving bad feedback there's not along else you can do

I won a twin light grill for the mk2 recently. For £20 inc postage. He said it was more damaged than he had first thought. Funny enough there was another person who gave negative feedback because of a Golf part that was "more damaged than first thought" ad so he refused to send it.

I left negative feedback calling him greedy. He replied that I was being unfair. I mentioned the previous Golf part sale and asked for a photo to prove it was damaged and that if this was done I'd retract my feedback. I never heard from him again.

  19. I bought a whole T2 from Gumtree; viewed it, drove it, sent the money, went to collect it (nearly 100 miles), and guess what, the owner had changed his mind and refused to had it over whilst standing on his doorstep. He refunded the money but that wasn't the point. It was a 1975 blue Super Viking in Southampton, on for £12,500, so bear that in mind if it comes up again; he's more than a little flakey......

  20. Happened to me ,same excuse been nicked ,left negative feedback that the original seller even managed to get removed (even rang ebay to ask why ,never contacted me back) ,ebay is for sellers not buyers as thats how they make their money ,more sales the better.
