Roof bars, roof tents.....?

  1. Hi @nobbly ,

That is cracking! I've been having a right look at this today and it looks the span will work sitting on the structural posts. Now to start searching for some decent roof bars that are not manufactured out of some dodgy Chinese tin! May go with a four bar arrangement (three under the tent) and one bar further extend to accommodate a sun screen - seems like a quick plan for when we part up somewhere or at a show.

I've been playing today and weighed everything all in, and I am looking at 47kg for the roof tent - size wise its bang on the money to your own. Will have a proper look at your pictures again before mounting, but pretty happy now to mount the beast now I've spoken to someone whose got one. All I have had here is "she'l be right mate".....

Plan wise is during the autumn / winter we will sleep in the kombi, then spring / summer up on top! Its does rain here a lot more than you think, but its like a waterfall has just dropped on you, so you are more than aware when the rain is on its way, so we should be good, but you never know. Heat wise its getting fun, 31 degrees today and only spring, though thats a bit of an exception, but they said that about the hottest winter we have just been through, and the hottest summer just gone!!

Truly a big thumbs up for this information, I bought it when I was so drunk I didn't realise i had until I got the shipping notice the following Monday morning saying it was on its way! Then I needed to work out how to mount the bugger!!

Again big thanks and will let you know how it goes! Really appreciated.

  2. No problems @Wonty
Thinking about it, if your tent is the same as mine you may wish to change the bolts on the ladder pivot and also the ones that bolt it to the roof bars for some quality items. I used M8 stainless jobs, the ones that came with the tent were about 6mm diameter and made of chocolate grade steel

  3. I'll have a proper look at them @nobbly, got boxes of bolts so will swap them over, not you have said it they do look a bit thin from memory... strange how manufacturers go down this avenue to cut corners on stuff that do not a lot to the baseline cost, but can damage reputations in moments.
