Rustoleum versus Tekaloid

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Markpc, May 20, 2013.

  1. Are these paints the same thing under different brand names, both coach enamel?

Anyone used both of these and have any opinions which is best?
I've seen plenty of posts on the net about using Rustoleum but not many for Tekaloid, any reasons for this, or is Rustoleum just in fashion?

  2. Can't say about Rustoleum though that seems to be what most people use on here. I used Tekaloid on my roof and have been very satisfied with the result.

  3. I've only used rustoleum and I think it's ace, Para may be along soon to advise you, he's the expert on enamel paint :)

  5. Tekaloid was what a lot of people used to use before rustoleum came to the uk
Rustoleum is supposed to be more flexible and can be mixed to og colours

On my detailed parts i use agricultural enamel but if it was for bodywork i would use rustoleum

Oil based coach enamels go on well if your spraying it on , i don't know about rustoleum but was tempted to try it when i was thinking of doing my van myself , i have used coach paint in the past ( well my brother has i prepped ) and it was good .

  12. Etch primer first over aluminium and galvanised stuff
You dont have to use an etch over bare steel but the surface does have to be keyed up really well in order for the paint to have somthing to grab hold of
I etch prime steel before the first coat of enamel as it does aid the process

As chris said its the rustoleum combi colour you want

  13. Thanks everyone, ordered it today from Avenue Coatings.

They're mixing it to L63H so fingers crossed it's a good colour match.
