Short shock absorbers?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Joker, Nov 7, 2013.

  1. As my bus is lowered does it mean that the shocks are short too? I was advised at MOT time that I should replace the fronts as the rubbers on the mounts are perished and rattling around but I'm not sure if stock ones fit or not? If not where can I source what I need? Its on dropped spindles up front and split spring plates to the rear

Dropped spindles = standard length shocks at front.

  4. These any good?

what drop spindles are you running?

On the westy we have Wagenswest 2 1/2" ones, the ride is excellent however with the std shocks we found that we get the occasional scraping on the wheelarch. Ive bought a pair of KYB Gas adjusts to see if this overcomes it

  7. I don't know what they are. How do you tell? Will take a look tonight and try and get a photo

  8. Mine is actually quite nice a ride, can be a but bouncy though. I have to take speed humps slow, as coming off them it can hit the ground !

I bent the front belly pan and jammed the clutch pedal when I went in for MOT as their forecourt is an incline off the drain camber of the road and I hit it quite hard!!

Ours are the welded ones - Im not sure on TH ones!!

  10. I've got an adjuster on the front beam and I reckon standard dampers only had the tyres rub a couple times and it's abit bouncy, was thinking bout short dampers

  11. i read somewhere that you should remove the dampers and fit the wheels then measure the gap, between the top and lower fixings to determine weather you need short or standard length dampers

but i cant find where i read it, and i could do with knowing the answer!

This is true, though you don't need to remove the dampers, but with both flipped and welded spindles the trailing arms stay in standard position and the shock length also stays standard.

They are T2D with the upside down ball joints, you need coilovers with them.

You can extend the bump stops about an inch which should stop that.
