Sikaflex and Scotchbrite...

  1. No, not a firm of solicitors.

Looking for some suitable Sikaflex to stick my front VW badge on with. Trublizz, Sikaflex make a whole range of products, so...which one do I need? Recommendations welcome.

Also (maybe @PaulWeeding will know), remember Laurie P suggesting that Scotchbrite pads are good for polishing your crankshaft journals. I don't mean the things you clean the bath with (although 3M confusingly give them the same name), I mean the pads impregnated with abrasive. What grade of pad do I use - have seen "ultrafine" - anyone used this stuff?

    Ta muchly.

  2. 3m double sided adhesive trim tape for the badge:thumbsup:

Red scotch is 400-600 grade if memory serves me right
The grey ultrafine is for prepping paint prior to laquer so will be 1200 or more

  3. I'm with Rick... 3m double sided trim tape, is the dogs danglies!!

And scotch pads come in 3 grades, red, green and grey... grey would be the one to use

  4. I've got a slight prob in that I'm trying to cover up a pressed Brazilian "VW", with the original badge, which needs a circular card behind it to cover up the Brazzy effort (the "VWs" aren't the same). Something blobby like mastic would do the trick, but I'll try tape.

Paul - have you polished journals with this stuff? Crank reconditioners normally use very fine emery cloth - was wondering what grade.

  5. Ah I see!! You could just use some normal sikaflex/tiger seal, and just hold the badge in position with some masking tape for 24/48hrs!!

Polishing is going to be done with 1000+ grit... I've used the grey scotch for freshening up bearing surfaces loads of times!! Works really well :)

  6. I was watching one of these on eBay a little while back.

Starting bid was £40 and I couldn't afford it at the time. :(

  7. Not sure whereabouts you are Snotty but i've got some Sikaflex (black) and some high grab 3M double sided tape you are welcome to use if it's any help - I know from buying both that they are a bit on the expensive side to buy for a small one off job, so would rather make use of it!

snotty, Lofty and paradox like this.
  8. Very thoughtful of you grubster, but I've just ordered a tube of tiger seal. Thanks anyway!

  9. No probs mate - hope you get it sorted.

If anyone else in the Solihull area needs any black Sikaflex, you are welcome to use it as I hate seeing things go to waste and I only used a tiny bit to glue some silly little bits of plastic on my T5.
