Slat window question.

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Bernard Fishtrousers, Nov 4, 2013.

  1. My slat window rattles like r2d2 breakdancing when I'm driving along.
When I first bought the van there were some rubber 'bits' that sort of clipped over the top of the panes of glass to prevent this.
    These have all been lost.
Any idea what to use as a replacement?

    Thanks

  2. I think schofields do the replacement rubber kits for louvres. I got given a set with a window, but haven't looked to see where they fit yet!

  3. A single pane of glass

I really did lol at that.

  5. I think the rubber profile used for bumper overiders is used to good effect.

I was looking at the louvred windows on my Devon, while eating my lunch in the works car park, and realised the operating levers have slots cut in them for the fixing screws.
No spacers or seals on the glass, not now and not originally unless somebody cleaned them very thoroughly.
They rattled and let in rain. In fact about the only visible leak into the bus.

    The fix:
Loosen the screws so the latch mechanism will slide with a bit of force on it.
Push the latch lever towards closed.
Just before the lever goes all the way down and as the slats all touch each other, stop.
    Tighten the screws.
Then you can close the window fully with tension now holding the window shut.

You might have to do it a couple of times before it shuts and latches properly.

  7. the hairy worm is used to replace original draught/dust seals for most 70's conversion windows
and Phoenix Trim will be able to match virtually any rubber section you can think of

@mikedjames ' solution does the trick also....

  8. Holy faaaaaarrk,

I think I may be sorted.
I will be trying this tomorrow Mike D James

    And if it fails,

I will find your works car park,
    I will find you,
    I will find your lunch...

And I will shove it into the gaps in my louvred windows....

  9. Here's hoping he doesn't have piccalilli on said sandwiches..it's a beggar to remove once it's set
Makes for a most efficacious draught excluder though;)

  10. On the subject - my looooovre doesn't leak, but if it's open and the bus goes faster than 60mph one of the sets of three snaps shut. Can anyone tell me how to tighten up the mechanism so it's a bit more robust at warp speed?

  11. Your bus goes over 60 mph? Be happy with that!

  12. There's an easy way and a more fiddly way....if the latch lever seems to be quite loose when you close it, you need to undo the two screws holding the latch to the frame, and move it up/down so that the latch feels harder to close....
The easy way is to bend the operating lever on the louvre mechanism, so the latch has to work harder....
Without wishing to sound condescending, (but failing nontheless) it's common sense tbh....look at how it works and adjust accordingly
