My sliding door is hell to close, it seems to be the rear that doesn't catch.

I've attached some photo's which probably don't show a lot but any ideas why it doesn't catch at the rear?

  2. Which style lock do you have? lock in handle, or lock under handle?

Unsure if its relevant - but changing the door seal ballsed mine right up - bought the more expensive grey jobby which was a lot softer - problem solved!

  4. The mechanism looks very dry, maybe try a good spraying with some wd40 and if that help, a bit of spray grease.

    Thanks all.

It's the lock under the handle.

I'll spay some WD as I don't think it has ever had some before.

Great, I've got the more expensive seal to fit (grey one) funny as the old seal has been put in wrong way round.

  7. As i keep telling everyone, there is no quick fix for the sliding door. you need to take it down and break apart the center hinge mechanism, inspect, clean, oil, replace what's missing or broken (something often is) as well as the bottom roller which is sometimes replaced with a makeshift ill fitting bearing, and clean the skid channel of mud and gunk. Postponing that will only eventually get more things broken.

It's probably an old JK one, cunningly made so there is no "right way round".

  9. I'm with you on that one!! My slider is an absolute pig to shut... I'm pretty sure that there is a spring that causes the door to latch when you shut it in the bearclaw mechanism!!
I'll know more when I finally pull it to pieces!!

  13. The U shaped bolt part on the mech, two on each leg top and bottom, gets rid of any play, easy to fit as well

@Razzyh, There are 2 sprung hooks where you wre photographing.
One it to hold the door in the open position, the other holds the U out at right angles until it hits the stop, where it lets go and the other end catches on part of the stop to keep the door forward as the rear swings in. Your hook doesn't look as hooky as it should.

Cancel that, the hook in the pic from above is the one to keep the door wide open. The others are on the sliding bit, you need to take the cover off and see what's what.

Had a quick look at the weekend and I think the rear of the door has dropped a little.

It looks like the catch on the door is to low (or high cant remember which) and hitting the stricker plate. If I lift the rear up then it closes fine.

  18. don't lower the striker plate to compensate though....jack up/in/out the rear corner of the door with shims between door and bottom roller assembly....you can also loosen the striker plate screws from the back when the door is closed....and with the bottom roller assembly loose, wedge the door to a suitable height, retighten the striker plate screws and pack the shims in so it's straining slightly upwards against the striker plate stop.....when you open the door it will drop a mm or so so it's just right
