Sliding door - what colour should the U bracket be?

Simple question to the good folk of TLB - what was the original finish or colour of the U bracket on the door slider? Is it bare metal, black or body colour? (Mine is all three...). It's from a 78 Moonraker (i.e. a panel van conversion).

Delux were chrome. I guess painted a metal colour? I paint them to match the body.

  3. They were originally silver I think, so probably painted the same color as other silver stuff on the van. L70X upto '70 and L91 from '71>

    Good answers chaps.

Silver seems to make sense -a bit of forensics shows that the Tiaga green is on top of the black which is on top of what looks like silver. Given I need to do the wheels at some point too its time to order a tub of L91 silver.

    Cheers

mine looked either scruffy silver or off white gone rusty.... i painted it brown to match the body.

Ah-Ha! more white. Shouldn't it be chrome? Mine is, what hasn't peeled off that is.

I've consulted google images and the microbus ones look chrome, but the camper ones look darker.

  9. The hinge on my '79 Kombi had been painted body color twice and seemed to be silver under it all. My '71 panel van has never seen a lick of extra paint, and the hinge is still silver albeit matted dull silver.

  10. Chrome on deluxe, silver on all others, most people paint them body colour though. :)

  11. I painted mine silver for extra geek points, but they look better body coloured I think, so I might change it;)

  12. My favorite is chrome, followed by body colour I'm not a fan of the silver.
    :)

Thanks for the post and fab photos vwed - really useful as a refernce since I took mine apart yesterday and already having trouble remembering how to put it all back together.
I'm going to stick with silver. Even though I like the body colour ones, stock is the only way to go and I need the geek points. And I've got OCD. Probably.

  15. It can be whatever colour you want it to be...
