I think if DD was to re read the same thread today, he'd probably find that most people had pretty good things to say about the Americans they've had dealings with. Trouble is, when you're in the middle of an ongoing post, it's easy to get arsey...I know I did the other day. Guess it comes down to how you resolve it.
@bernjb56 something to watch out for with flooring like amtico, karndean, etc, is that if you're using it somewhere that gets a lot of direct sunlight ie below a south facing window or in a conservatory, it can fade A LOT with the sunlight shockingly quick. And yes it is very expensive!
How big? Just got 17 square metres of solid oak clip together flooring from B&Q (on offer) plus underlay for about £400. The whole room might come to £3k including a nice wood stove, slate hearth, boarding out and plastering walls and ceiling (insulating boards on outside walls), extra sockets, lighting, flooring, new door, curtains etc.
Will post up a picture when it's done. Put up some 70s Italian silver chandeliers (centre and side lamps) bought for £50 off eBay 2 years ago in there as well. Love shiny sparkly stuff.
I'm with you there. I have a massive glass one in stairwell that takes 16 bulbs though it only ever gets one. It was dangling in a packing crate at an auction and nobody was bidding - £15.
It's on ceramic tiles laid over concrete - that seem to add a lot to the potential cost. i reckon we are going to have a look at laminate. The kitchen next door to this room is done in Amtico, but that is a wooden floor.
