The "Waitrose of the North", Booth's have ready-mix mortar in convenient 100ml jars.

Wood fence post, 2.4 metres, only £27 @ B & Q (price reduced). I picked one up at the local farm shop yesterday, it is stained from storage but will be fine when cleaned, for just £5

  3. If you don't like it, they'll take it back if you keep the receipt

I'm lucky that we have a really good timber yard a couple of miles away, and my brother in law has an account there ;) Screwfix also opened a new branch about 1/2 mileaway a few weeks ago, just need a Toolstation a bit closer and it will be perfect. There is a good local DIY shop not too far away too.

There is a new Howden's next door to the Screwfix too, need to see what worktops they do, for the camper.

B&Q don't price match against Screwfix (not surprised) but they do against Toolstation, thought the Toolstation is closer and usually cheaper anyway. Don't get me started on Homebase......:D

I was once in b and q and picked up a 2 Meter length of cable conduit , one of the staff reached around me and replaced the price sticker with a new one that was 50p more expensive . ? Ive also had two bad experiences when ive returned goods and staff have threatened to call the police. It seemed to me to be their default response when i comes to refunding money
Had a bad experiences buying four meter of aerial cable . Staff need to cut it off reel for you , there was four and a quarter meters on reel , staff said he wont waste the remainder to labelled it all up at four meter . Till staff opened the seal and measured it again and measured four and a quarter meters and said she would charge me for the full length . I explained what her colleague had done and that i didnt want the extra cable but her colleague didn't want to cut off the short quarter meter . I was told i had to pay for it , i refused and i was threatened with police for either theft or criminal damage . I called over the lad who gave me the extra cable and he denied it . Suffice i simply walked out of the store .

  6. My sister asked me to pick up some oak veneer doors for her the other week, I loaded them on to the back of my van. Got home and realised there were more doors than holes in her house. 2 extra doors. They will go nice in my new house :)

I did a Click and Collect from Wickes a few years ago - I can't even remember what for, but the trolley had one of those rectangular Garden Store thingies on it as well as other stuff. I loaded it all onto the van - only realised when I got home that it wasn't ours. Oh well!!! ;)

One time when I was looking for something I knew they had in that store after checking on line, I asked a blokey and while he was denying that they stocked it, spotted it over his shoulder - he was standing in front of it.
They at one time would cut up sheets of ply to your dimensions. I got a youth who was determined to push the saw through as fast as humanly possible, like 2 seconds top to bottom, I thought we were going to die impaled with pieces of blade, I alerted who seemed to be his boss and went somewhere else.

Only thing I like about the place is you can walk around and look for solutions because the stuff is there in front of you, unlike toolstation or screwfix.

Check if things mate up etc. then buy somewhere else ;)

Yes true but both Screwfix and Toolstation don’t make a drama about returns. You can take a load of stuff “ just in case “ and return it just as easily.

    Screwfix "hire" is quite good.
I know someone who was fitting smoke and fire strips into some fire doors but forgot to take his router with him.
He bought a router from Screwfix, did the job and then took it back on his way home saying it was no good and got a full refund!
And before you ask, no, it wasn't me!

  14. Quite a lot of that goes on, according to our local Screwfix bod. They just accept it as a cost of doing business. I like Screwfix.

Totally agree, they provide a great service, lots of choice ( some poor quality ) they may be taken advantage of in a minority of cases but that’s built in to their pricing structure which takes some beating. Obviously their lower selling lines are not bargains .

Funnily after finding screwfix had stopped selling quality clip top plastic conduit, I went to an electrical wholesaler and everything was better and cheaper.

Have you mentioned it to the East Grinstead stud muffin @Barry Haynes, that Screwfix is not a Dating Agency?o_O

  18. One of the best-run UK companies, IMHO. Their IT's top notch as well. Staff turnover doesn't seem very high, at least at our place. Love 'em.

+1 . My local one is brilliant, great camaraderie amongst the staff ( doesn’t seem imposed ) . I am fortunate as I have timber and steel stockholders locally who are old clients so always get a good deal but…their staff are generally surly and not that helpful to “ outsiders “
Screwfix and Toolstation have given a real kick up the Jack*** to their competitors, they may not always be the cheapest but you won’t have your pants lowered :)
