  1. Hi Barry

First thing to do is take the oil dip stick out and see if the oil is thin and smells of petrol, it sound as if the carbs are overfilling, mine used to do this after being sat over the winter, before you take anything apart give the top of the carbs a tap with a screw driver, these carbs are simple to overhaul and worth doing

  5. ... Oh, and as you have it out set the throttle plate gap right while you can see it...

  6. Seems like a pretty normal right hand carb, and Deefer66 is showing the left hand one.

One other source of fuel smell now I remember is the drain plugs. These are on the front end of the carbs. Mine went years before I discovered they'd been fitted with some sort of mastic but no sealing washers.

  7. hi Andy

throttle plate gap? I think I might come back to that, I need to work out not to do more damage, the van drives fine except for leaking fuel when stationary and stalling at junctions when I am slowing down, and taking my foot of the accelerator. When the engine is warm I think it ticks over too slow and feels as though it is searching for fuel.

I want to check the fuel float valve and the idle jet , I can change what is simple and then put the carburettor back in and see how it works. I don't mind coming back and fourth. I am sourcing service kit on line but it is the bank holiday so will chase tomorrow.

    thanks

  8. while you at it you should change the throttle bushes, you can see if yours are worn by pulling it down against the spring tension and see if there is any movement. I have never seen used set of carbs that did not need this doing. I have some bushes for sale left so feel free to get in touch.

  9. Hi Nobody

Well I have taken the 2 carburettors 32-34pdsit -2/3 out and bought the service kit from Aircool. Having looked at the carb , the left one was quite soiled with ?oil and the flaot did not have a copper clasp over the hinge? would this cause it to leak fuel. The Brosol service kit was rubbish or I am dyspraxic. Trying to fit the float hinge was like something out of the krypton factor. I failed! Neither the right or left kit works for the hinge on the float , on the right carb there is a thin copper clip that just sits onto of the float hinge , there was none on the left. So does anyone rate a different make of service kit or does anyone have a copper clasp for sale?

As to whether the throttle bushes are worn, GOK, but I will try and solve one problem at a time, otherwise I will get confused.

  11. Hi Deefer,

Spot on , my one looks just like that, but it isn't very tight, it just sits there, the casing above may be holding it in. anyway I am not going to put the Carb back until I have got my copper clasp from mick who has walked 2miles for the project
    thanks

  12. this is how they supposed to be, just sitting there.

  13. Just want to say I feel your pain, I've been through very step of this and still my carbs aren't quite properly set up, although they are close. Some of the rebuild kits are poor which doesn't help along the way.

  14. Hi Daithi

Well I will be happy if the van starts and drives down the road, and of course back again.

  15. Hi

Took the van out yesterday for a trip after servicing the 32-34 solex pdsit.
Surprisingly the van runs better and does not stall at junctions. It even goes faster on the motor way.

Abig thanks to the guys on the forum westy Andy Zedders and the Mikes Barry and the group. It's useful to have advice if you are neither knowledgable or able

    Enjoy the season
