I'm guessing subaru have a longitudinal gearbox, much the same as a VW van but in reverse? Been working in the crewcab today and there is a hell of a lot of space under there where the fuel tank sits. Just thinking, I reckon a scooby engine will sit in there, the right way round, so it could be possible to use the scooby gearbox too...
Never played with scoobies but they are 4wd, is the transfer box separate and so bin able or part of the gearbox?
That's all for standard layout, I'm talking about putting the engine in front of the rear wheels not behind
would you have to touch the rear suspension wouldnt the gear box just hang down from the torsion tube ive no idea im just asking
i realised that but wouldnt the gear box just move back under the torsion bar or is the crew cab a completely different floor plan to a bay i need a drawing
You need a quick look under your van Kev, imagine the gearbox the other way round and see the trouble ahead!
cheers zed i see what you mean now im thinking suspension will be in the way there must be a way around it thou just need a bit more brain power than ive got
Petrol tank in the old engine compartment, lower it to buggery and raise the engine and box above the torsion tube. And no, I haven't given that a proper think-through!
I'm not serious about cutting up my crewcab, just giving it some thought. Now, if @lost-en-france (Dandaz, I didn't make the connection to the old JK username , I remember stumpy too ) would let me bring Henry back to the UK (at the right price ) and give him a loving new home and a new lease of life I could make that work as he needs a new arse end anyway... I have a friend who builds and races mid engined jalopies, they look a bit like short wheel based sand rails and he reckons constructing a sub frame to fit in the back and take the suspension wouldn't be a big deal
Stumpy is coming here for new years... he owns Cornwall Caravan Breakers now... I think, I will hold onto Henry a bit longer ,my nephew will like to inherit him one day ,i think.. ...
