Finished reinstating the hot air heating system this morning.

Now all replaced and / or refurbished from front to back.

Really pleased with how it came out.

I also managed to repair and refit the drop gate hinges. Only the half that bolt to the body.

I had to drill out the all the seized pivots. Welded up a couple of the countersunk bolt holes which were a real mess. Re-drilled then countersunk them.

I’ve almost run out of small jobs and need to get galvanised and drop the engine - refit all the tinware and get it running.

Seeing as the main battery was shot it was duly replaced, £72 thank you, which I thought wasn't too bad.
Seeing that the Varta had lasted nearly 11 yrs and served well I felt OK.

    Don't be silly.
It's quite obvious that the van thinks it's a cat.

Took out a screw in the poptop that I fitted at Techenders to temporarily hold down a stainless steel cover on the roof where the DC feed from the solar cells went through the roof.
It was annoying me because the rain was dripping down the screw then sitting in a puddle on some insulation in the hole in the poptop where the vent used to go before a PO covered the hole by a tin sheet held down with pop rivets.

So the screw came out and I bunged the hole up with mastic and it stopped slow dripping.

Then replaced a relay circuit I had fitted to link the batteries so that charging the leisure battery eventually charges the starter battery.
Replaced it with four big Schottky diodes so that even if the charge comes in from solar cells, the same thing happens - it doesnt have to find about 1 watt of power to pull in a relay.
Cheaper than a proper VSR as it uses bits of junk from old PC power supplies rather than a proper smart circuit. Also it is dealing with current flowing the other way compared with the normal split charge relay - this one is 'on' when the engine is stopped and the bus is on hookup or solar power.

Celebrated the start of my Christmas break by drilling out some broken / seized bolts.

The single and double cab pickups have two blanking plates between the cab area and the engine / fuel tank.

These two plates are each retained by 8 bolts.

Guess how many were seized ? A dozen !

Centre punch and a range of drills finally got em all out.

Threads all re-tapped for some nice stainless M6 loveliness.

    Another gutty job ticked off.

Two cups of tea and only minimal swearing.

So, either you have fitted tractor wheels; are hopelessly optimistic about your speed or prefer to know your speed in KMh?

  12. Can you please turn the 90 and 110 labels up the other way? Gets my OCD going. Thanks.

  15. Took it for a long run to charge the battery etc, while it was actually dry for once!

Fitted them for a trip to France.

Its all right I can read upside down. They annoy me too at about the 99.9%CBA level so they stay.

Today I went out to begin loading the bus for the drive over to my mothers tomorrow.
    And ended up
    1. Noticed the drivers door lock was a bit crunchy to turn the key.
    2. Noticed the front Allen screw on the handle was loose.
So I took off the handle, took out the barrel and swapped some of the lock biscuits around from my collection to fit the key better.
    Then refitted the handle.

Then did what I set out to do.

Aren’t they called ‘wafers’ rather than ‘biscuits’? Or is that me just being picky? Either way, good work, I’m sure if I tried that it would end badly..

  19. Wafers, although they're also known as peti fours if you get them from Waitrose.
