No. It's a spray can for clean but old steel and not oil based. It's a rust preventative, not a rust cure... Fertan for the win on a rusty old boat, followed by the usual.* I haven't personally painted over Fertan yet but we've used some on rust spots outside and it appears to repel water when it's dry which is good in that way but hopefully it won't repel or react with paint. It made a really nice surface to glue our insulation to as well - I did do a test piece to make sure it didn't peel off or react with CT1 (all purpose adhesive) and that bonded to it like the proverbial.
damp got in the filler/filler wasn't really dry? Very hard to diagnose but damp is often the cause. Pretty sure now I look back that I used fertan/red oxide/filler/red oxide/undercoat/topcoat on some severe rust around my portholes and it's fine. I sanded the filler and overpainted as soon as the filler set.
I keep changing my mind but red is winning at the minute . A late 80s red 911 is my ultimate lottery win car.
I remember painting these 30 years ago. Hamerite held on well. Quick wire brush and paint today. Brake pedal has seized up so will remove pedal assembly next.
Pedals cleaned and lubed. Back together with fresh paint. Ready to go back in next week when floors etc are dry.
Body shop checked the bug over today. They said it was much better than i had described and were happy to take it on next Thursday. I’m driving it over and stripping it down there. Can’t wait
