Throttle pedal

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Ermintrude, Oct 26, 2013.

  1. Back in notts to pack house up this weekend, jumped in camper to fetch takeaway and after a few revs (he was taking his time) throttle pedal didn't spring back up as normal.
It stayed on the floor. No revs. Nothing.

I need to drive back to Yorkshire tomorrow night and mechanic doesn't work weekends. I'm also not away from my house so can't call breakdown. Any ideas?
    What can I do/look for ??

  2. Check the accelerator cable on the carb is clamped in properly!!

  3. It's snapped it pulled out??? . That god that didn't happen on the windy m1 last night.

Anything g I can do, really need the bus as I'm not certain the bug is safe enough for the journey.

I'm guessing this is the problem.

  5. Did it snap or has it pulled out

I'll send the grammar police round ;)

    Ermintrude likes this.
  6. That's snapped... new cable time :(

  7. Is the barrel nut (cylinder thing with a small bolt in it) still in the carb arm? Is the blobby bit still on the end of the cable.

If yes, easy to fix. Loosen the bolt, stick the cable through the barrel nut, pulling on the cable with a pair of pliers to keep it tight and pull the accelerator pedal all the way up. Make sure the carb arm is in the "resting" (thick bit) position at the bottom of the zig-zag quadrant thing on the side of the carb. Tighten the bolt. Sorted!

  8. I can feel a rough bit still in the silver shiny thing so think its snapped.
How big a job? Could aa do it if I can get a tow far enough away tomorrow? (No home start)

  9. Or get a mate to tow it so it isn't near your house ;):)

edit. posted at same time, yeah tow it. AA should have a cable repair kit

  10. Can't see a cable anywhere.

  11. Ooops. It's snapped :(

  12. be surprised if AA would touch it tbh, but you never know....
if there's just enough cable left to fit into the cable clamp (looks like a silver Jack plug) loosen the 8 or 10mm bolt (top of your photo) fit the cable in the Jackplug (by undoing the small grub screw (allen key fitting) and clamp the Jackplug back up, where it ends up....easier to do than explain

  13. you may have enough cable...your pedal is probably on the floor...prop it up with a something
from the pic it looks like the cable has snapped just as it enters the Jackplug so you may be lucky

  14. Where do I find the rest of the cable?

  15. Where abouts in nottingham? @Dicky is in Wollaton...may be able to help if you make him lots of Tea

  16. It'll be hiding down the round hole in the fan shroud :)

  17. Arnold. I'd even buy biscuits!

  18. Think I can just see it but tweezers are in wash bag which I left in leeds! Bugger.

  19. the snapped end of the cable should be visible by following an imaginary line from the Jackplug to the firewall at the back

  20. have you propped the pedal up as far up as it will go?
