  3. What was the problem again?

  4. The engine support bar was not aligned, bracket/mounts not installed correctly.

How did you manage to get the gearbox "ears" to line up with the engine mount above the back of the gearbox bellhousing, with the rear mount misaligned? (Unless you dont have that arrangement)

  6. The support bar had been messed with and had more than one location to bolt engine mounts too.

And in the "arch" above the gearbox, were there more holes in strange places?

I cant imagine it being possible to put the engine in a Late Bay at an angle if the two bolts at the top of the gearbox are in straight, into the holes in the rubber mounted engine mount bar that is also up there.

Early Bays dont have the fixings up there, so you could make it wonky with the fixing of the rear support bar..

Waggle it from side to side with the bar disconnected, there's play in the gearbox hangers. e.g. I had to bar mine backwards 6mm including the engine, I could do it with just the front gearbox hanger loose - couldn't move the bar hangers further back, no more slot.

  9. I unbolted the support bar, hangers & mounts, there was some play which gave enough to line up the tinware, was about 10mm in the end. Then tightened everything back up.
