I liked his programme Its Easy Being Green, but it was out of the reach of most of us mere mortals. I haven't seen him in much else. As for his son James ... well, he's rather nice to watch on TV ...

 

Mr Strawbridge isnt even in the same league as the Dibnah. Nice chap and his intentions are good, but Fred was the archetypal northern madcap engineer. Proper hands on.

However My Strawbridges Tash gets on my nerves. Its a top lip syrup surely.

 

I have a similar argument with greens RE renewable technologies. Some people see them as a panacea for all our ills, however it isnt quite as clean cut as they think. Plus they only ever look at it with an optimism born from stupidity and wishful thinking.

The only way to save energy and cut emissions IS TO NOT USE THE DAMN STUFF IN THE FIRST PLACE!! This is the ONLY way. But you try telling greens this and they have a fit and spout things they read that another dumb schmuck wrote which was fundamentally incorrect to start with.

I'm all for cutting emissions and reducing energy consumption. But lets not wear green tinted spectacles. Dont use it. Simple.

How Britain Worked was a great series although it would've been better with subtitles for the hard of Northern!

 

Guy Martin is ace. Plus he is a TT Racer and Road Racer. Bloody good at it too. In fact a biking Legend, top man and brew drinker.

I'm not into the whole bike thing but if you haven't seen Closer To The Edge I cannot recommend it enough.

Guy Martin is a top bloke, proper job and all that.

Dibnah could've been his dad.

 

Aye Chief, Closer To The Edge is a fine film. Best bike movie since Easyrider.

Self sufficiency is rose tinted tosh for the middle classes. I grew up on a smallholding that my mum ran, but only because my dad had a proper job to pay the bills. Even as a hobby it was non stop hard work. Scraping a living from the soil and working all the hours just to get by, starving if the crops fail, no modern conveniences - doesn't sound much fun to me.
