To flush or not to flush....

Discussion in 'Restorations' started by SeanOC, Sep 24, 2013.

  1. I have a T4 2Lit engine and I am about to change from 30 weight oil to 10-40 & wondering if I should flush the engine through with a chemical flush first, any ideas guys?

  2. Dont use chemical flush!
If you want to clean the engine out fill with your new oil then drain and refill after about 50 miles.

    Yup WHS ^^^

  4. Totally unnecessary. Mineral oils mix its only when you go down the synthetic route that you can have issues. Dont do it just do your oil change as per normal and if you are concerned than just do your next oil change a bit sooner.

I have used it once in a Austin Maxi - engine blew up a day later?

  6. I think the reason not to flush is that it may release all sorts of crap from the oil cooler and cause oil starvation elsewhere due to blockages?

  7. The type 4 engine has a proper oil filter... I've as yet to find gunk anywhere other than in the sump!!

  8. Well that's pretty conclusive. No flush then....
