Today is Pizza With the Works Except Anchovies day

    When faced with the question of “what would you like on your Pizza?”, the pizza novice might answer “everything, please!”. This is a rookie mistake, the correct answer is ‘everything except anchovies!’, at least that’s the case for those of us who aren’t keen on those arguably pizza-spoiling salty fish! Pizza With The Works Except Anchovies Day is all about indulging, but without the anchovies, please.

    Actually, I'd rather have a Margherita :)

    What's your topping of choice ?

    This is an easy one today Bern and the answer is.....meat, hold the anchovies, jalapeño peppers and olives.

  4. It's gotta be a Spicey Meat feast with chilli peppers, BBQ dip & maybe a few Pineapple chunks thrown on for good measure.

    Pizza Romana .... tomato, mozzarella, anchovies, oregano, oil or Pizza Margherita are my choices :food::food::food:

    I like all sorts of strange things, but loathe staples such as Marmite, Vegemite or peanut butter.

  15. I agree - you need to take a holistic approach to pizza. There are some things that I wouldn't choose to eat on their own, but its the combined taste of everything on the pizza that make a pizza special. Keep the anchovies, I say.

    It's a bit like those who eat McDonald's burgers but pick the gherkin out.
     
  16. I prefer pizzas prepared plain and simply - the only additions being olives, mozzarella or possibly parma ham or chorizo - oh, and anchovies of course! ;)

    Actually, give me a plate of good pasta any day over pizza ....:food:

  17. i make me own now so can av what i want , but beware dont throw um too high . When i was a lado it used ta be a mama pizza, four seasons, salami, pastrami ,prawn n chicken , but then i was pessed. Now its pepperami , peppers , spicy chicken , mushrooms n sometimes blue cheese n onion or prawn curry. oh yeh good one jen i lurrv chorizo too.:)

    So long as it comes in box from a supermarket freezer.

    I have mentioned in a foodie post ages ago about my hatred of cheese - the food of the devil.
    I attach two things, a quote from t'internet about pizza without cheese, and a picture of me eating said article in Siena (three things to note. 1 - this is the only pizza I have ever eaten. 2 - I am wearing a bay themed T-shirt. 3 - I think I had a heavy night judging by the eyes!!!)

    "I am from Napoli, Italy, the birthplace of pizza, and I can tell you that the addition of mozzarella cheese on top of pizza is of relatively recent origin. Pizza was traditionally a food for poor people and cheese is a relatively "rich" ingredient.

    According to local tradition, the now classic "Pizza Margherita" was invented by a Neapolitan pizza chef in the late 19th century, to honour the Queen Margherita of Italy who was visiting the city. The ingredients in fact are inspired by the colours of the Italian flag: red tomato, white cheese and green basil.

    Before then, then the most popular topping for pizza was simply tomato sauce with garlic and oregano. This is called "Pizza Marinara" and it's still very popular in Napoli."
