Windmills were once a much more common feature of our landscapes; however, modern industry has rendered these historical wind-powered factories mostly redundant. Windmill Day encourages you to visit your local windmill, get involved in restoration projects, and to try your hand as a miller! I can't remember the last time I saw a windmill. Anyone live near one?

Look out for this guy  [IMG]

I love seeing windmills about the place and the new wind turbines I find attractive in a similar way.

We need more old and new types.

It's just down the road from Raymond blanc's restaurant at great Milton. When it was first built it looked like this.

  8. Halnaker just outside Chichester. I don't think it is a working mill but it looks beautiful as you look over the South Downs.

Appropriate theme for the day considering it's blowing a hoolie outside!!

  9. No old fashioned windmills here. But there are a few wind turbines nearby - love them and the thought of getting something for nothing (well - apart from the initial outlay of buying the thing...).

  10. I am a Miller!
And have been for 25 years.
Sadly not in a Windmill at the moment but my mill is over 100yrs old.
I can accommodate visits with a bit of notice if anyone is interested. Free samples too! ;)

  11. Interesting it started out as a Post Mill but ended up as a Tower Mill, must've burnt down (very common) or been blown down (even more common) in between times.
Two sails is unusual too. Most common is 4 but I have seen 5, 6 and 8 sailed mills.

  12. I have no idea why everyone says that this is me!?!?

Lots of wind turbines about these days , i remember delivering some trial ones to Mid Wales back in the 80s ( or parts of they are very big ) and listening to the boffins telling me how they were going to be very common one day - i doubted them tbh .
