Whilst sitting in my engine bay this weekend in the cold and in the rain and watching primer dry very slowly I happened to notice that some of my CV bolts are loose. Now I understand I need a special tool as the bolts look to be "splined" Is this the right one? http://www.schnapp2000.de/en/bit-so...it-socket-spline-m8/a-200212446/?Currency=GBP Cheers, Matt
not sure if its splined or a tri-square but heres one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CV-Joint-...t=Motors_Automotive_Tools&hash=item2c4efbd28d
The first one you show is correct. It's an M8 slimed drive. Get a good one though, cheap ones are made of soft metal and quickly wear out. A good one will last forever. The bolts should be torqued correctly to 25 lb.ft. They should also have conical washers fitted but these should be replaced once undone, so to be correct you need new ones. Correctly fitted and torqued bolts should not come loose.
JK do one for £8.95 and they sell the Belleville washers...change them and torque up as above and you won't have any problem. No need for locktite or over torqueing which destroys the effect of the washers.
^ what fritt said. Be aware someone may also have used allen head bolts in the past. Degrease everything, make sure the spreader plates are there, change the washers and torque up to about 28 lb/ft. They won't come off.
