Anyone got any recommendations for traction mats? I’ve gone to the French side and built a Renault Trafic camper to go along with the VW, but this weekend on our first trip away got stuck getting on a site (along with about 20 others), so looking for some traction mats to be able to get myself out without relying on anyone else.
Probably not relevant but when I was in forrin parts I used to collect a few of the rush/reed beach mats bought by tourists and binned when they flew home . Always carried a couple and they were perfect for self rescues from sandy beaches , might be something similar in Skeggy/Clacton/Blackpool but difficult to find in Slough... MaxTrax or Treds are the best but there’s loads of cheaper imitations. I’ve got some steel versions from Land Rover days but they’re a bit heavy, useful on the odd occasion though!
Max trax are the best but not cheap There are a lot of cheaper versions on eBay and Amazon but most of them are very poor especially the ones with a section to act as a spreader for a high lift jack. Rhino did a very good max trax copy but a Quick Look on eBay where I bought mine from and they seem to be out of stock now.
I’d rather make space for something that works than carry something small and convenient that doesn’t
Hello everyone, I first wanted to shorten old aluminum air landing panels and take them with me - also because I found them rustic and knew them from old films and books. Today, metal versions are not recommended as they can shoot backwards even when the wheels are spinning and become a danger. They also bend permanently more quickly than plastic. They are also heavier than plastic. There are also thin fiberglass reinforced plastic boards with a rough surface - but they cost around 240 € as a pair and are very compact and lightweight. Today I have cheap Wamovo plastic traction mats - around 60 € a pair. But I had to build the holder myself. If they break or get lost, no problem. But friends have already used them with a T3 in the Sahara without any problems - they last and are cheaper than the noble versions as from Maxtrax or ARB at 300 € and more.
