  1. Found this the other day...well worth a watch. Not really a steam train nut, but there's some serious metal bashing going on here. Health and Safety doesn't seem a great concern...

  2. just sat and watched it all, thats fascinating! thanks snotty! cant get my head around the sheer size and weight of all that metal!! THE SIZE OF THE AXLE!!!

  3. I love heavy engineering!! It was how britain was made... these days it's just made in china, or taiwan...

  5. Agree re the engineering , there is a transport museum down the road from where I am at present ,I visit regular and must say ,the steam train on display is heavingly massive ! , it so impresses me ,how that steam engine has to provide enough energy just to move itself,! and old fella I do some work for drove them in his working life ,and he can tell some stories >note; job I never want >the dude(s) charged with shovelling coal>12hrs shovelling enough coal to keep that beast running ,that ,apparently was where you started ,on the "ladder" to driver status, crazy stuff .

A good watch that, 150 tonne press to get the wheels on the axles! I'll never moan again that bus balljoints are a pain to do!

  7. Amazing, isn't it? The 20s and 30s were definately a golden age of engineering. Most stuff in cars (apart from the electronics and modern materials) had been invented by the 30s, and aircraft engineering was even further ahead. No coincidence that our humble VW type 1 motors look suspiciously like aircraft engines...

Love the big guy in the foundry with the 'tasche :)
