Tubbing front arches.....anyone done it?

  1. In the words of the great Bruce Forsythe 'You were right to go lower', so with that in mind i'm planning to fit a narrowed beam and tub the front arches at some point in the future.
Anyone here gone down this route? Whats the process for tubbing?

  2. saw a lovely one the T2detectives are doing in their workshop at the weekend....
ok its a splitty but it has cool airshocks.

  3. Tubbed and narrowed splitties look the nuts....particularly with a little patina and signwriting! :D

  5. And that one has it all!

  6. I'm not a fan of doing it, if it can be helped, as it lifts the seat base height!!

  7. True, but you can reduce it again by losing the hair seat base and replacing it with high density foam i gather?

  8. If you want good advice contact Ben Lewis at "Evil Bens" in Chacewater, Cornwall.
He has an prototype bay, lowered and air suspension.

That's it - first remove the suspension, then the springs from the seat.
    My back wouldn't stand it.

Tubbing is a good way to devalue your bus and severely limit it's future market if you ever came to sell - Peeps that like lowering/notching and tubbing tend to enjoy the process rather than buy one already done.

I might raise mine a few inches.

I've done lowered, now I'm going up In the world:thumbsup: it scares the Mrs every time the wheels hit the arches, so I'm going back up.

I've gone the whole hog and replaced my gas shocks with 2nd hand oil filled standard ones.
Not because I'm on a stock crusade, far from it, the ride is better. Also the more weight inside the better the ride. I yearn for a heavy pop-top.

I lowered mine without having another information and knowledge on the consequences. I welded in CE adjusters while I had the beam off and have been struggling ever since. I spend £180 on 2 shocks that were the correct length for my ride height, cut off the bump stops and even with 15 settings the only setting that will stop it bottoming out is solid!

I'm now struggling to get the thing back up on the adjusters, so either I didn't fully drill the dimples or I penetrated through the beam when I welded the adjusters on. So at the moment I'm stuck where I am!

    Looks cool though:D

  16. WHS!

  17. Meh....each to their own, but i think nothing beats a slammed bus on the visuals and i'm more than used to low vw's......my mk1 caddy is about 2" off the ground.....the exhaust clamps hit cats eyes lol

  18. I'm a lowered bus fan my self , my mk1 golf was low but looked ace far better than stock high

  19. then raise it higher than stock

    paradox and fritt like this.
  20. I'll burn it to the ground first lol
