Twin 40, and heater blower question??

  1. Hi all, just two q's that some o you may know the answer to.

I have twin 40 weber Ida's on my 2.0 type 4 engine, but is there anywhere I can get a vacuum advance for my dizzy from? I do t think there is, but then I know far from everything.

Also, having only had early bays before, I'm new to having a heater blower in the engine bay, I can see how it's connected up, and where the blower pipes go, but how does it work? I know it's blows hot air down the heater ducts, but is there a switch for it? Is it on as soon as I switch the ignition on? Does it ever turn on? Is it activated by air flow when the heater exchangers or opened or closed?

I'm sure I can get it working again, but would just like to know how how it worked in the first place. I have also completely removed the fuel injection and related loom, if this effects anything?

Any help as always would be cool.

    Cheers

    Austin

  2. The heater leaver on the dash switches it on when its in its lowest position

  3. a ported vacuum advance take off needs to be inline or just below the butterfly when closed...never owned a pair of IDAs so can't speak from personal experience, but I would have thought they'd have provision for a vac take off, even if it's never been drilled out and fitted....have a look for a small hole in the barrel of the carb at or below butterfly height...some carbs have provision but maybe blanked off or undrilled....more research needed methinks...anything lower will not work as a ported vacuum for a dizzy...the idea is it draws at idle (butterfly almost closed) and is destroyed at higher RPM, so only provides additional ignition advance at small throttle openings ie when cruising

  4. just to add to my post...sometimes, manufacturers use blanking bungs , as it's cheaper to produce a universal body, complete with galleries and transfers, and block off the bits that aren't required for a particular vehicle application...these look like odd round spigots in random places filled with a brass plug.

  5. Our heater fan has a switch on the dash but it should work (as orig) from the max defrost lever as per the next comment. Personally I like having a switch like what I have got, not too hard to wire as all the relay etc is in the engine room
