Two splines

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Stephen Flint, Mar 24, 2013.

  1. If I drop my bus equivalent of two splines on the rear (I am actually fitting adjustable spring plates), will my exhaust be on the floor? I know I am going at least this low to start with as I am collecting all the parts next weekend and I will probably go lower in future. What are my options exhaust wise? I thought about cutting and turning the exhaust and welding it up at a better angle but I'm reluctant to do that as its ceramic coated and it seems a shame to ruin it. I also thought about getting a standard exhaust but I doubt it will bring the same grin to my face in tunnels and built up areas!!!

  2. Iirc 1spine is about -60mm. There are big pack exhausted designed for Ahmed busses :)

It'll be close, but believe it or not mine never hit anything...

    Must have been lucky.

  4. Eh?

  5. Cool bus. Is that a single quiet pack? Might look into getting one of them if they provide a little extra clearance.

  6. Sorry i ment to say there are exhausts designed for slammed bus's

Thanks. No extra clearence, just luck. It's back at std height now with a beetle exhaust which really does tuck away.

Im down two splines with a stainless steel standard exhaust(which I think looks great) and its got good road clearance.

  9. O right, cool.

Yeah I've seen a few and not convinced they are worth what people are charging. Have you had experience of or heard of any you could recommend?

  10. Where did you get it from? I saw that GSF do a beetle exhaust with a clamp on stainless tube that joins the two outlets and exists to the left in a standard bus style, looks pretty good for the price.

My engine is pretty much standard apart from a progressive weber and the exhaust that's on now. Wonder what affect a standard exhaust would have on power and mpg? I know this is a different issue buts its certainly a consideration when changing exhaust.

Sounds like standard, which I like .

Beetle exhaust breathes better, two tailpipes. Peashooters will hit your late bumper, but a tailpipe bodge-up like mine might work on a late?

Did the 1600 LB not come with the peashooter as standard?
If not what did they have??

Single long tailpipe coming out of the middle. I have no idea why beetles got two for the same engine, but no doubt there's a reason. Possibly to strangle the engine a bit and make it last longer pushing a heavy bus around?

  16. In have a bug pack ready to go on mine when it is eventually ready for the road so i have no idea how it sounds as yet. Its a 4 branch manifold which goes into a single box which mounts up beneath the battery tray
