Type 4 1700 Alternator Adjuster Seal

  1. Sorry for the poor mobile phone picture, but what covers up this slot where the alternator adjuster is accessed? Type 4 1700 engine.

  2. There should be a cover on there, I'm not sure whether its rubber or not mate, don't think they're available anymore so probably have to find one at a meet. I know there was a thread a while back where someone had made a plate with an angle on it to cover the slot. :)

I got my cover plate from someone on the Samba forum. He was making them. Sorry I cannot remember who.:(

Alternatively look at those magnetic signs/badges like GB or L plates. Trim it to shape and stick it on. Job done.

  11. Duct tape was the first thing I thought of for this job, bet Rick did too. He'll have to come up with another plan now.

  12. Is the fan guard standard? I've not got one?

i didn't use duct tape just a crude cut piece of tin screwed on with 2 little self tappers, not pretty but does the job

  14. It is std, and you do need one!!

Stops big lumps of crud getting sucked in and deposited on your engine and reducing your cooling capabilities!!

  15. They used to be scarce and sold for silly money just for a bit of plastic.
I ended up making my own from an old hub cap and clear plastic.

A few weeks later they started making them again. You can pick them up from one of the usual suppliers. Still silly money for a bit of plastic, about £25 I think.

  17. Couldn't see on VWH but JK had them in stock and on offer at less than half price. Clearly they don't sell at £25, but £11.95 is a bit more reasonable.

  19. Bargain. It's one of those things people think they can do without, then one day they're looking for the oily rag they've been using and wondering why their engine is cooking itself! :D
