Anyone know where I can get a good quality one, my JK one lasted several months, my VWH lasted 2 months.

I don't want to have to replace every couple of months, that's just ridiculous, so I'm after a good quality made bellow.

    Anyone, any ideas?

    Thanks all

I was going to say VWH. I've had mine now for 2 years and l fitted one to another bus just over a year ago.

I would question why they have failed twice.

Does the dipstick tube on the fan housing line up with the engine??

Does the dipstick go straight down??

And what are they doing when they fail?? Splitting or riding up??

  3. If you do find a good one please post just changed mine again, just like your picture on your other post mine has grown by 50%, easy to change but should last longer,
    Steve

Truly useless to make a part of the oil system from a material that's not suitable for oil. I mean what's the spec?: This shape, suitable for oil. Not rocket science is it?
Could the conversation have gone...they're 10p each if you buy a thousand... can you do them cheaper? we're very greedy you see.... Yes we can do one that's not suitable for oil for 5p, you'll sell lots more... OOO good idea, I'll take a thousand, thanks.

Sorry Razzyh I didn't realise they those bellows were the before and after. That's truly crap!!!! Get onto VWH and while you're at it, write a review and we'll see if it gets published.

  7. I only recently realised how unbelievably important these little bits of rubber are to keeping oil where it ought to be, in your engine. Keen to find out who does decent ones and get some ordered just in case. Any experience of Coolair ones anyone?

mmm coolair, might have to give them a try. I'm going to have to change my review on JK as I slated it - but at least it lasted longer than VHW - so will change review from 1 star to two stars - think I'm going to end up with a few bellows spare.

I'm not going to hold my breath about VWH I've dealt with their customer services this past week and not really impressed.

Carry on slating them, these parts should last for a decade at least, not months. I had a 1700 for 10+ years and when I sold it, it left with the same dipstick bellows it came with when I bought it. Knowing who I bought it from, who had also had it for as long, he wouldn't have changed them either.

  10. One has to wonder whether the suppliers actually know what they are doing. not being funny but many of them purport to be experts - but in what, experts in their own range of crap! I doubt that they can specify accurately what they are having made by manufacturers and probably rely on the competence of the manufacturer tbh.

VW would have gone to great lengths to get things right first time and actually have proper, knowledgeable boffins design this stuff. Even then they would have learned by their mistakes and moved forwards. There will be engineers on here capable of specifying the correct formulation of material to ensure a quality part but doubt they work for any of the usual suspects.

How many times has a supplier asked you for your chasis number and then managed to actually give you the correct part?

The state of plastic and rubber bits and bobs has plummeted recently. All this stuff was fine 5-10 years ago.

  12. probably made in China like all those fake Dyson airblades ........

just checked mine after 500miles and it's loose and leaky! cable tied for now to see if it stops... but in good news, I thought it might have been the crank seal behind the fan so it's a bit of a relief!!

  14. The real ones are made in Malaysia!!!

  15. ^it's this (although I'd argue whether it was better 5 years ago).

With rubber bits, it's the compound that they're made of that's important. It's obvious that suppliers either don't specify the right stuff - if indeed they know what it is - or just take the Far Eastern manufacturer's word for it. Given that Chinese suppliers can usually make anything to any quality you want, reasonable to assume that companies just don't want to pay for it.

Just about all the rubber parts I've bought have failed: handbrake/clutch cable boots, heater cable boots, everything. The handbrake cable boots famously dissolved after about 3 months exposure to grease. Given that they're supposed to go around greasy things, bit of a bummer
