Type 4 engine issues

  1. As some may kow I've had my engine out to change seals in order to solve leaking issues. I've done all that, got the lump back in and put back together. Started it up and have loud vibration noise on tickover and not much tappet noise at all. Now my immediate thoughts are valve clearances, but I've double checked these and all seems to be in order (I always use @Joker 's video on youtube as a tutorial). So question is, what's up with it?

The pushrods are all located properly at the rocker end, can they have issues at the other end?

  2. Are your tappets hydraulic?

  3. No mate

  4. A thought........I replaced the old dizzy with an electric one so it doesn't have a notch on it. Is it possible ive done the valve clearances 180 degrees out?

I'm knackered and my brain is fried, what the idiots guide to sorting this out?

  6. I am a $%#*. As thought 180 out on my clearances. She's running more like it now. Need to do the timing again and all should be well. I must have put the leads back on wrong as @davidoft said.

  7. I was a bit rusty when installed my engine a couple of weeks ago and did exactly the same. I just stood staring at it scratching my head
    :)

  8. Did you also locate the pushrods into the lifters properly? As on a type 4 they don't just drop into place as they do on a type 1 engine!!

  9. They were ok this time but have done that before.
