Type 4 oil filler?

  1. Do you know if it is possible to retro fit the Porsche 914 top oil filler / dipstick to a VW Type 4 bottom one? Or is it part of the casting and not possible? It's just I gave an AN code Type 4 and would like the Porsche look one.

It should be do able I guess.

The AP 1800 motor I had was fitted with a blanked off piece for the bottom but it had a dipstick tube. The end was sealed so the filler must have been via the breather tower. Its visible in the image:

  3. The 914 dipstick is a pig to check, you need to bend the handle to get enough access. If your dip stick tube has been blocked make sure you don't get the material into the engine. The ones I've found seem to be blocked with concrete!

  4. Thanks for the replies ! I only want to do it for looks, the restoration will be Porsche inspired, and the guy I bought the bus from said the engine was from a 914.... Well that code engine was used in the 914 but with a few alterations to the dipstick. I will have a look at my motor when I get home, see if it all makes sense!
