views on rear tyre sizes - 50 or 60 profile at back?

  1. Just swapping some wheels over on my late bay and was wondering what the general consensus was on rear tyre profiles.
Putting 15 inch empi 5's on and got 195/50 tyres at the front.
I have a choice as to whether I put the same size tyre at the back or 195/60.
    Bus is mildly lowered.
    thanks.

  2. Empi's don't seem to give much scope for larger(wider) tyres, my van is mildly lowered I've got 185,65,15's all round. I wanted to go wider and taller on the tyres because of the gearing loss using smaller than stock. I found that on the rear the distance between my sidewall and inner arch was mere millimetres and anything wider than what I already have may have caused a bit of fouling.

I've opted to go back to stock wheels as I do a lot of mileage.

  3. i have the same problem i going for the 15in wheels was thinkin of putting 175 65 15 all round i have standerd 14s on at the min but they are 6ins wide so causing lots of rubbage the new wheels are 15 by 5and half with a et of 14 so what do i do thanks
    sorry for the highjack

Tight - 185 max , rubbing is a problem unless you remove the inner lip on the arch or narrow the rear beam !

Where are you going to get 195/60x15 tyres with a high enough load rating for a bus?

195/70x15 on 5.5 Empi 5-spoke wheels with a 20et fit no problem at all and they are very close in rolling diameter to the original 185x14 tyres.

  6. got mine from local tyre place 195 70 15 load rated @102 this is as close to stock size as it gets

I agree and that’s what I said, but where is grub, or anyone, going to get 195/60x15 tyres with a high enough load rating? I’m not saying they don’t exist but I’d like to know who makes them.

  8. I currently have fuchs on mine with an ET of just 6 with 195/60s on and there is a good half an inch between tyre wall and inner arch ?? My new empi's have an ET of 12 so will fit further in so should be even more gap.

  9. you want to find a profile that matches the original size other wise your gearing down the van

use car bibles to play around with sizes + don't forget the load rating

    195/70/15 is very close
