I thought Cordorouy slippers where the height of fashion..... @Lord Charles Its going to be Hot Rodded up, probably ratty, although not 100% sure yet. Being mainly ally I might bare metal it.....It will be V8'ed and body dropped though @Jernau Defo be rolling it myself, cant be letting my 'eavies have all the fun...
ploughing time cash and energy into as rod build these days is a gamble, I have built a few rods over the years, one even picked up a top ten at the UK street rod nats two years on the trot and got a full cover feature in CC The problems not in the build but getting it registered. It used to be easy and that what made building them worth while, but now you have to jimp through hoops to get on the road. MOT stations may refuse to test the car as its heavily modified or test it and inform the dvla of mods, at which point you may get summoned for an inspection... It used to be as easy as updating the dvla of V5 changes, but tell them anything and youll be up for a test ... register it on a dodgy book and you will run the risk of the insurance being voided as soon as you make a claim.... ground up builds are still happening but dont ask me how they manage to register them legally ( or close to legally) I know hpw we did it in the day and you can still get away with it for the likes of 32s and such but odd balls are a diffrent matter.. but dont let me put you off ... After 30 years into hot rodding I gave it up and come back to VWs .. there more versitile , cheep and easy to mod without having to worry about V5 changes ... and easy to shift on ... buying an old rod that needs an update is a better proposition these days, Its already registerd and granfather rights legitimise it for further mods ... cough ... or go the Q plate route and BIVA test ... just a thought before you jump in .. If youve done your homework and you know the pit falls and accept them then go for it ...
Looks like a good candidate for hot rod treatment, look forward to seeing a 'resto' thread set up on it.[/quote]
