I am after the above as I need to touch up a few stone chips in my bumper and top half of my paintwork. I had a look in Halfords but they didn't have any. Any ideas where I can get hold of a little? I believe the code is L90D. Thanks.
^^^ WHS. Halfords do aerosol cans mixed on site to specific colours. It won't be in the general racks of paint. Autopaint of St Helens is good for larger quantities and they also do little touch up bottles.
Halfords paint used to be some horrible acrylic paint that reacts with everything. You'd be better off getting some decent paint mixed by someone like autopaints as mentioned or paints4u etc.
The Halfords volkswagen/audi pastel white is one of the standard colours in the big rack. No need for special mixing
Beware that it may be the wrong colour (creamier)! VW changed the recipe (in the 80s?), but kept the name the same.
I ordered some from Auto paints St Helens, painted the inside and the roof. Ordered some more and it turned up and was a different colour. They do commercial paint ortop quality paint. Just another thing to watch
For me touching paint up is a dark art. Whether you buy an aerosol or a 5 litre tin it will never be quite the same as what is already on your van. I got some pastel white paint last year from Autopaints Brighton and did a top half respray. I've just now done the bottom half and also ordered some more pastel white for the bumpers, but this time from St Helens. It's pretty close and looks good but it's not quite the same.
WHS, can't recommend these people enough! I got my paint from a place in bishops stortford who were supposed to be reputable, all the same colours purchased and were completely different shades!
I can confirm that the Halfords VW Pastel White is much creamier than our old VW's require......so much so that I was unsure if mine was indeed Pastel white. At least this post has reassured me that it is ( and I'm not going colour blind or mad. )
That's interesting. I've found with the various recent paint jobs I've done that pastel white does seem creamier to start with then fades after a few days. Don't know if all brands/colours do this. The most noticeable difference was when I rollered my roof in Tekaloid; I know it's an oil based paint, but it was mixed to L90D. It looked a yellow/pink colour to start with but faded in about a week to a normal shade.
so when i had mine resprayed a couple of years ago, will the pastel white be the new creamier version?
